The percentage of websites available over an encrypted version of the internet, https, has reached a new high.
Certificate authority Let's Encrypt has issued more than three billion free tls certificates since 2015 that websites use to set up an encrypted connection and identify themselves. Although browsers now show a warning when visiting http sites, figures from Let's Encrypt show that the percentage of https sites is leveling off. Worldwide, it accounts for 82 percent of the websites encountered by Firefox users.
